Public Input & Information

The Sponsors and the Design Consultant have presented the project to the public in several forums.  Public input has been gathered in each setting.  This information has been key to the development of proposed design solutions.  Below is an overview of the comments, suggestions, and input offered to the Sponsors by the public stakeholders and interested parties.

  • Sense of Identity - capitalize on the historic elements of the original towns to develop an identity that can be communicated outside the district

  • Pedestrian Safety - address a vital need for basic sidewalk facilities and safe pedestrian crossings at intersections that are growing increasingly congested and hazardous

  • Neighborhood Network - re-establish a network within the residential areas for neighbors to work together for a higher quality of life

  • Business Network - strengthen communication between motivated business owners in order to stabilize the commercial district

  • Winning Team - the many property owners and concerned residents in this district are quietly seeking an organized effort such as the one the Sponsors of this initiative have created in order to focus the community and encourage those who wish to act that a winning team is in place 

  • Crime - by re-establishing a sense of pride and order in the district, concerned residents and property owners will be better equipped to send the message that law-enforcement is a priority

  • Retail - introduce appropriately-scaled retail districts to offer those amenities that will attract new investment

  • The National Road - celebrate the Road the Built the Nation as is passes through this historic district

  • Infill Investment - attract new business ventures to invest in those vacant parcels/buildings in both the commercial and residential districts

  • Public Desire - there exists a strong desire on the part of the public to take action

  • Demographic Balance - create an environment that will attract new and different types of businesses into the district to balance the commercial district

  • Code Enforcement - encourage existing and new businesses to comply with necessary codes and to improve the sense of cooperation between businesses for the enhancement of a strong commercial district

  • City Projects - street projects in the years past have created many problems areas where the roadway has been moved dangerously close to many homes and businesses.

  • Increased Airport Traffic - offer a commercial/retail district that will be attractive to airport traffic sure to increase in the years to come

  • Zoning Conflicts - address conflicts between existing adjacent commercial and residential parcels

  • Commercial Buffers - create and/or improve those buffers between the business district and the residential districts

  • Park Concerts - enhance the existing city park so as to be sufficient to accomodate public forums

  • New Investment - encourage new business ventures to invest in the district

  • Property Value Stabilization - create and support an environment that will stabilize both the residential and the commercial property values

  • Traffic Speed - address issues of speed where the business district collides with the residential streets

  • Historic Character - celebrate the history of these towns where

  • Drainage - correct basic oversights in the existing drainage plan

  • Tax Base Utilization - apply taxes gathered in this district to public projects that will benefit the residents and property owners
